JMRL is committed to serving Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson and to helping individuals to navigate their information seeking needs even in the most difficult of times. Finding the balance between JMRL's mission to serve, community safety, and personal safety is a delicate task. While possible, JMRL strives to keep its doors open to all, including those who may have no other place to go.
JMRL has a five-tiered approach that has been engaged in response to COVID-19. All branches are currently in Tier 1.
- Library Closure
Applies to Central Library, Gordon Avenue Library, Northside Library, and The Bookmobile.
- No public access to building interiors. Curtailed hours and staffing. Limited delivery between branches. Enhanced cleaning protocols in place. Enhanced safety and distancing protocols in place. The goal in Tier 4 will be to have at least one branch offering limited physical service in each jurisdiction, with curbside or drive through pickup only.
- Curbside/drive through pick up is available at all branches, except the Bookmobile. Find specific procedures and hours for:
Central Library, Gordon Avenue Library, and Northside Library.
Applies to Crozet Library, Greene County Library, Louisa County Library, Nelson Memorial Library, and Scottsville Library.
JMRL is opening its buildings with some new guidelines to keep our community safe:
- Buildings are open by appointment only. Check the Crozet, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Memorial, and Scottsville pages to find out how to make an appointment.
- In accordance with state law, masks and six feet of distance between individuals in a library building are required.
- Be considerate. Do not come to the library if you are sick.
- Appointments are 45 minutes long and capped at one per day. This will help JMRL serve as many people as possible.
- Services are limited. JMRL will only offer virtual programs. No meeting rooms are available.
- New hours: Monday - Saturday. Check your branch page for details.
Check your local branch page to see what services are available:
- Contactless pickup is still available at all locations, although hours may be reduced.
- The Bookmobile will not make scheduled stops during Tier 3.
Tier 2 (2022 updated):
Hours are at full service levels at all locations. Programming is virtual or outdoors. Meeting rooms are available.
- Masks are required in all JMRL facilities for patrons ages 2 and up.
- Meeting rooms are available along with notaries and a host of other services. Individual branches and departments may have capacity limits.
- Patrons are encouraged to limit visits to two hours.
- Masks are recommended, not required.
- Most locations at pre-COVID 19 hours and staffing. Attendance limits for programs and meetings may still be in place, albeit at a higher capacity.
