Questions about Ordering and Processing Library Materials

JMRL staff strive to develop and maintain the library's collection so that it is available for all patrons. Occasionally, things go wrong and the process doesn't work with optimal efficiency. These questions/answers and the following form are provided to alert staff to problems you may experience.

How long should I expect to wait for new materials to be available to check out?

There is no set answer to this question. It can take up to a week or more from when the library receives the item. Many factors are involved. Materials arrive at varying intervals and require different processing. Items requested by patrons are given priority. If you have questions about a specific item, please fill out the form below.

How long should an item have the status "In Transit?"

Items should not be "In Transit" for more than 4 business days. If you have questions about a specific item, please fill out the form below.

How can I get an item if JMRL does not own it?

JMRL provides an Interlibrary Loan service to borrow books from libraries outside of the JMRL system. This service is available at all library branches. Go to the Interlibrary Loan page to learn more or request an item.

If the book you want is new, you may suggest that JMRL order it by filling out the Suggest a Purchase form. You may also request a hold on the item if JMRL adds it to the collection. You will be notified if the book is ordered and when it is available for checkout.

How should I inform JMRL if I think something has gone wrong with an item?

Use this form if you have been waiting an unusually long time for an item or to report any titles that have no copies or if all the copies have an unusual status (example: "Lost and Paid", "Billed", or "Missing").
