Making Sense of the American Civil War

A reading and discussion series led by Kirt von Daacke Assoc Professor and Asst Dean, UVa Dept of History. The series is organized around themes that explore meanings of the war that are "hidden in plain sight" behind the key questions and main characters familiar to us. The program includes a series of 5 readings found in 3 books: MARCH by Geraldine Brooks, CROSSROADS OF FREEDOM: ANTIETAM by James McPherson, and AMERICA'S WAR ... edited by Edward Ayers. There will also be a scholarly essay. Patrons who want to actively participate will get copies of the books and need to pre-register. [All places are now filled.]
