Listen to radio station WINA (1070 am) and TV 29 for cancellation notices. Please call for information about bringing the Bookmobile to your neighborhood.

Monday through Thursday the Bookmobile has scheduled stops in Albemarle County. Afternoons and evenings, the Bookmobile visits its scheduled stops in Charlottesville. The people who staff the Bookmobile are Willow Gale, who heads the Bookmobile office and handles the Albemarle stops, and Steven Latimer who handles the Charlottesville stops.
The Bookmobile has its own collection and carries 1800 to 2000 books to each stop. Patrons can place holds on materials and pick them up at their respective stops. Patrons may also request materials on particular subjects and we will bring a selection to the patron’s stop. The walls are lined with shelves of books that include fiction and nonfiction books for adults, teens, and children, as well as some books on tape, cd, and play aways. Included are mysteries, fantasy, biographies, cookbooks, history, and folk and fairy tales.
Books or other materials borrowed from the Bookmobile are checked out for one month. They can be renewed for another one month period. Materials borrowed from the Bookmobile may be returned to any JMRL location and materials from other JMRL locations may be returned to the Bookmobile.
The Library has offered Bookmobile service since 1946. The new bookmobile, valued at $180,000, was purchased in 2005 with funds from Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, and the Friends of the Library. The style is called an ELF - Extreme Low Floor - and it was built by Farber Specialty Vehicles in Ohio. With no steps, it sits lower to the ground and has a ramp to make it accessible for everybody. It brings library services to many people in our community who would not have access otherwise.
